An American Affair is a story of a young man's coming of age and his unusual friendship with a beautiful older woman. Adam becomes enthralled with his new neighbor Catherine when she moves in across the street. To make some extra money Adam helps Catherine replant her garden. As they become friends, Adam learns about Catherine's past which included an affair with the current president, JFK. There is also an element of political intrigue as Catherine learns of a possible threat to the president. The storyline is improbable but the performances, especially by Gretchen Mol, are nevertheless entertaining.
