Comment
Add a CommentTold through the voices of four different family members, this novel examines what a mother means to her family while she is present to care for them, and then later, after she has disappeared. The shifting viewpoints slowly reveal her unacknowledged pain and unspoken strength. I enjoyed the way the author slowly unfolded the story, and the layers of character with it. It was a compelling read. This is Kyung-sook Shin's debut English translation, and I hope to see more from her soon. (WeAreSpartacus/Ms_Fitz)
