As far as autobiographies go, it was well written. I do agree he did "gloss over" some of the scandalous aspects of his career, but it was interesting to read all the connections associated with the brat pack.

A surprisingly good read. We think we know celebrities and celebrity culture but we don't. After reading this I can't understand why anyone would want to be an actor given the crap they have to go through. Mr. Lowe has endured much pain and has lived through it and come out the better for himself. Good on him! Just wish he had not done so much name dropping!

Having read many autobiographies, I felt that this one was just mediocre. It seems like he glossed over a lot of his experiences without going into too much depth. He went out with Melissa Gilbert for years yet he hardly mentions her. He barely acknowledges the sex scandal that he was involved with. The book was more of a chronological list of his acting credentials than about his personal life. He also seems to drop as many celebrity names as he could. After reading this book, I got a few more details about his life, but I don't feel as if I know him any better.

Back in the spring when I was watching almost every episode of Oprah's last season, I was glued to my television set during the Rob Lowe interview. As a former heart throb, the object of perhaps the first major sex scandal I can recall, and as Sam Seaborn in The West Wing, I have enjoyed Lowe although he isn't top of mind for me. He just came across as being so charismatic that day on Oprah. Even a bit too slick. Anyway, my interest was piqued and I ordered his biography from the library. It finally came in and it was just OK. It wasn't too smooth to read, and I felt he was doing a lot of name dropping. But it was entertaining and I can't wait to see The Outsiders again.

Evidently, Melissa Gilbert never got over Rob Lowe. Having read both autobiographies, I can tell you that Lowe's "Stories I Only Tell My Friends", is by far the better of the two. Well written, insightful, and humorous - this was an enlightening look back at the past couple of decades through the eyes of the author. A smart, ambitious, funny book! Rob Lowe does a fine job as a writer. I enjoyed the book.

This was surprisingly good. I often felt he was presenting himself as a prettier Forrest Gump, since he has a connection with so many random celebrities and events even before he was famous. I felt he skimped a bit on his love life, especially after reading Melissa Gilbert's Prairie Tale, but otherwise this was a fun and funny look back at pop culture in the last 20+ years. And, let's face it, it is nice to know he is more than just a pretty face.

After more than 30 years in Hollywood, Rob Lowe is coming clean. From his days as a teen heartthrob to life on the set of The West Wing, Rob is holding nothing back in his can't-put-it-down autobiography, Stories I Only Tell My Friends. In this juicy page-turner, Rob shares revealing celebrity scoop, sexual escapades—with women like actress Melissa Gilbert and Princess Stéphanie of Monaco—and dark secrets. He even opens up about his recovery from alcohol addiction and the explosive sex tape scandal that sent him into hiding. At age 47, Rob says he decided to sit down and write about his highs, his lows and his enduring love for the woman he says helped save his life. "One of the gifts of writing is you learn things," he says. "And I learned the real reason I'm writing this book now is because it's hopefully a handbook for my children to understand Dad."
