Summary
Add a SummaryChief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Surete du Quebec has the murder of an artist in Three Pines to deal with. The question to ponder is: Do people change? This story takes place in summer so, although there are secondary story lines, there aren't the usual inaccurate winter observations that I find annoying. I gave this story a 7/10.

Comment
Add a CommentAnother excellent book by Louise Penney. This one deals with the aftermath of the previous book. Clara is finally recognized for her worth as an artist, but when a former friend is found dead in the garden, Inspector Gamache and the crew are onsite to solve the mystery.
Read these out of order, but it didn't matter .they were all very good, can't wait for the next one. Love Inspector Gamache. I want to live in Three Pines...
First book I have read of this author. Thoroughly enjoyed and characters and setting. Writing is fluid and easy to read. Reminiscent of Inspector Bank's series. Will read this author's books in the future.
This sequel to "Bury Your Dead" is another suspenseful murder mystery. // This one is set primarily in the fictitious but now familiar Eastern Townships community of Three Pines. // Themes include: friendship and animosity; addictions and recovery; betrayal and forgiveness; mistakes and second chances; greed, self-doubt, and self-recrimination. // As before, vivid descriptions of characters and their motivations, plus evocative descriptions of places and art. // TIme for me to start at the beginning of the "Chief Inspector Gamache" series.
This reminded me of certain British mysteries, which start slowly and build in suspense and excitement as the story goes along. It is a police procedural in the best sense of the term. I enjoyed the atmosphere of the art world and its varied characters. The french Canadian setting made the story enjoyable. Inspector Gamache is a very intriguing and competent policeman who is fun to follow.
same great setting of Three Pines and the same characters but something was missing in this book. I never really felt close to the characters, there was a distance that did not exist in her previous books. Story was interesting and full of twists and turns and the plot unfolded brilliantly.

Back to Three Pines for Clara's first solo showing and guess what, another murder. The caliber of Louise Penny's writing does not fail. Our familiar and loveable characters welcome us back to Three Pines as another mystery is solved with Gamache and Beauvoir.
I really enjoy Louise Penny's Chief Inspector Gamanche series. However, her latest book is far and away my favourite so far. I got into the story in the first chapter and as the action unfolded it got progressively more interesting. If you like art and psychological mysteries you will be in heaven. I hope this book wins an award because it is a winner.
Yay, Louise Penny. Keep writing.
