the original British production runs circles around this limp noodle, my guests and I couldn't get beyond the second dreary episode, for solid political intrigue we ran, didn't walk, to the superior version, watched its entire first season in one night, Ian Richardson leaves Kevin Spacey categorically in the dust

- Never get bored. Very exciting show. I enjoy every minute of the entire show for the first season.
- I already watched it in 2013 when it first came on to Netflix's exclusive program.
- I watched it again in July 2014 when it became available (4 DVDs) at the local library.
- To those who love politics and dramas: You should not miss this one !

Solid show. The writing is sharp and smart, with great dialogue and good storylines. Spacey, Wright, Mara, Kelly and really the entire cast, give consistently good performances. When I first started watching the show, Spacey's asides, where he turns to the camera and speaks directly to the audience were pretty engaging to me. He can be talking to somebody at the time or even standing in a crowd, and he'll just stop, turn to the camera and usually say or do something comical. If you're into dirty, characterless, backstabbing, vengeful, political dramas, be sure to check this one out. It won't disappoint.

Where is season two?

Spacey of course. I sense something a little off, though. A little too sure of themselves, the production, that is. They seem to know that this will be extremely well received. And/or, it's the UK to US adaptation which usually involves the cruelty edges being rounded off. America is the cruelest country physically/practically, but northwestern Europe is the most mentally cruel; smarter, at it longer. Sitting on the sword’s edge, this show decided to back off a little, don’t want to gloat. >>> Could use more extras; lonely sets. >>> Also, tv is very good now so these cats better feel some pressure and sharpen up.

Drama done well. Kevin Spacey is in his element here. The writing is so good it is scary. One can only hope that there is some fiction in this story and that it is not ja case of the names being changed to protect the innocent. I can not wait until the next season hits Netflix.

Seriously loved this show. Kevin Spacey represents everything you hate about American politics. Love or love to hate, he does a terrific job. Specifically enjoyed Robin Wright (wife) & Michael Kelly (political aid). But the whole cast & writers did a great job too. Especially loved Kevin Spacey's beginning/mid-scene monolagues. Might check out the BBC version although I find American politics more intresting.

I suspect people who watch this without having watched the BBC original will like it more than those that have.

It is a well made and tight series that keeps things moving and interesting. It has been adapted for US context with only a token nod to the original although the role of each character is similar and so watching the original first will remove some of the surprises especially in character development.

The main problem with this series is that it seems to be a tamer version of what might actually happen in Washington DC!

The original had the advantage of coming out at a time when the population wasn't so exposed to the inner workings of the Government as we are now in the blog-era and so people may have been less cynical and a bit more shocked at the depths to which the original roles went in the British context. In comparison, some of the political manuevering in this series in this day and age with a polarized country seems tamer than reality as people might expect.

Actors are well cast in this series although Kevin Spacey's wordy asides with the audience just doesn't have the powerful connection Ian Richardson had in the original with just a raised eyebrow or a smirk rather than words at times.

Worth watching.

Extremely enjoyable series about the byzantine politics in Washington with Kevin Spacey's Frank Underwood as the puppetmaster. Robin Wright plays his equally ambitious wife Claire, and Kate Mara plays eager yet naive reporter Zoe. Well written and excellently acted, highly recommended.
