Some scene condensations and cuts are warranted. Violence made old_toto squirm. Every parent and grandparent should watch. Not recommended for children.

I really enjoyed this movie. I thought the story was well done for the most part (yes there are some holes), the acting was good and enough suspense. The only issue I have is the length. You could easily chop 45 minutes out of this movie and really make it intense. Overall, give it watch.

The movie didn't get good until the last 30 minutes and even then it was just alright.

Incendies had violence but it was introduced with background information for its existence. Prisoners fosters elements of voyeur sadism in its focus on degenerates. The Birch's are not at all credible and are more despicable than the Dover character. The true villain is however credible and very well played.

This film is the second “big” film of director Denis Villeneuve’s career and it comes right after his masterpiece “art international” film “Incendies.” “Prisoners” is a more conventional English film, a thriller, but yet with a lot of great cinematography and great acting by all involved. This and the moral dilemmas faced by the characters lifts it way above that of other simple thriller films. Now I look forward to view Villeneuve’s film “Enemies” once it is released on DVD.

The acting was so good,(especially Jake Gyllenhaal's performance) i actually thought that he had something to do with the kidnappings of the girls period. However, the movie is too long and i also thought that it was sleep inducing as well, because i had the hardest time staying awake for this epic puzzler period.I also really don't like the fact that the movie gets it's most devastating thrills from the TORTURE of a suspect that might be totally innocent of the crime that was committed against those girls period.I might watch this one more time and that's it for me on this time drainer period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Overall, I liked the movie. Hugh Jackman was great as the distraught parent, while Terrence Howard had a non-affecting role. Jake Gyllenhaal gave an off-beat and effective performance as the police deterctive. The story is tight, I never saw the ending coming and it tied everyting together nicely. However, the middle section was boring, because it was seemingly going on and on and, more importantly, going nowhere. Torture does not make a good backgdrop for story development.

This movie was OK (a qualified OK). I've seen worse and I've seen better. I'm not sure Jake Gyllenhaal was the best star to play this cop. He seems to always be like half asleep in his roles. I wouldn't want to watch it again, but it was a pretty good movie the first time around. Good special effects (blood and snakes), but the segues left little to be desired as I kept thinking we were going to commercial. There's suspense and surprises in this movie. Yes, I can recommend this movie for adults with strong stomachs.

What a steaming pile of hooy. Do not waste over 2 hours of you life on this stinker.

The most likeable person in this movie is the (spoiler alert) the villain. The two major protagonists are despicable f**k ups. I gave this movie more than just one star because of one line that struck me as interesting and unique (uttered by the villain). By the end, I was yelling at the screen to kill off major characters.

BTW. There are two real good actresses in this movie that are totally wasted. Could have casted no names and gotten the same results (might have made things interesting).

Some spoilers... Ultimate evil confronts irresistible parental love. Good acting, no huge plot holes that I can recall, although the torture was a bit rough. I kept hoping Dover would figure out he needed to find out who the kid was afraid of since that was why he wouldn't talk. The other thing I didn't like was it made people who lose faith in God sound like they are nut jobs. Usually things go the other way so it seems kind of unfair to hate on the unbelievers.

Keller Dover: Uh... did-did you give him a lie detector? You gave us a lie dete - did you give him one?

Detective Loki: Sir, I understand what you're asking me: yes we did.

Keller Dover: And?

Detective Loki: We gave him a lie detector, and there's no way of... A lie detector doesn't work if you don't understand the questions.

Keller Dover (to his son): "You know the most important thing your granddad ever taught me? Hmm? ...Be ready. Hurricane; flood; whatever it ends up being... No more food gets delivered to the grocery store; gas stations dry up... people just turn on each other, and uh... All of a sudden, all that stands between you and being dead, is you..."
