this is the seamy view of the apparently carefree society preoccupied with gossip and play, which comes to a screeching halt with the advent of war.

A wonderful film adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's Vile Bodies. Terrific cast, energetically directed by Stephen Fry.

Not as funny as I'd expect from good old Stephen Fry, but a jolly enjoyable film nonetheless. Nicely acted by the ensemble cast, especially Michael Sheen, Fenella Woolgar, and David Tennant. Lots of colour, action (motor car races!), and snappy dialogue to differentiate the movie from the familiar British period film/novel adaptation. Sometimes feels too abrupt, and I had to put the subtitles on during all the party scenes as it's difficult to hear over the din.
